LUIS LOPES HUMANIZATION QUARTET, SOLARISTS
Bossa - 2463 18th St, NW, Washington DC
8pm doors - $8
Luis Lopes Humanization Quartet are an avant jazz group from Portugal
+ Texas on CLEAN FEED Records
Luis Lopes (guitar), Rodrigo Amado (tenor sax), Aaron Gonzalez (bass), Stefan Gonzalez (drums).
Ably flowing from group improv to tightly composed post-bop pulse workouts, there’s something here for everyone. Jazz guitar purists will approve of Lopes’ dark, round tone, but there’s more than enough atonality and angularity to keep the proceedings engaging. The strong rhythmic foundation of brothers Aaron and Stefan Gonzalez (sons of the great trumpeter Dennis Gonzalez) constantly builds momentum, and affording ample points of departure for Rodrigo Amado to take things out on tenor sax. Swinging, adventurous, with the intensity of Ornette’s classic quartet-don’t miss this gig!

Opening will be DC’s own SOLARISTS (Aaron Martin-sax, Ed Ricart-guitar, Britton Powell-double bass, Sam Lohman-drums), a brand new free jazz guitar quartet featuring some of the area’s finest improvisers.
