Noise Behind Bars: Blue Sausage Infant, J. Surak, Amptext, Fast Forty, Tangent of Safety

Second Saturday Art Walk, 6-9pm.

Chester Hawkins began BSI in 1985 as an experiment in modern-day audio Dadaism (via musique concrète and tape-collage) and has evolved it into an ambitious laboratory of "psychedelia" in all its forms. Using an ever-changing arsenal of electronics, acoustics, and handmade objects, the stated purpose is to create deep and elegant trance states with a glaze of paranoid tension: a teetering balance of euphoria and terror. The more experimental side of early '70s Krautrock is an easy reference-point, but BSI strives to pick up where those explorers left off, and go further out.... Way out... Blue Sausage Infant's 2011 album "Negative Space" was nominated for best "Experimental Music" release at that year's Qwartz Awards in Paris.

J. Surak
Jeff Surak started in the early 80s participating in the international hometaper network. His primary projects include -1348-, New Carrollton, V., and Violet. Surak has collaborated with such artists as Alexei Borisov, Zan Hoffman, Rinus Van Alebeek, Frans De Waard, and Michael Gendreau. He operates in the netherworld between composed and improvised music, moving between musique concrete, drone, noise, & free improvisation using whatever sound implements at hand. Surak runs the Zeromoon label and directs the annual Sonic Circuits Festival in Washington DC.

As Amptext, Gary Rouzer seeks to investigate the boundary between music/noise, sound/silence, and instrumental technique/gesture using electric bass, radio, cello, amplified objects, record player, and field recordings. In performance the music is presented as live collage and combines scored actions with improvised composition.

Fast Forty
Fast Forty (Keith Sinzinger) will present "vox and box," a minimal setup featuring vocals, boombox and pedals, exploring the space that creates new sounds. He typically records on cassette at District of Chaos Studios and likes to build unusual things.

Tangent of Safety
Tangent of Safety is the synth duo of Stuart Rosenzweig and Dave Vosh.
