Festival Fundraiser with Halo Valley, Ziad Nagy, CK Barlow, Chester Hawkins, Patrick Cain, and Black Saturn, plus Films!

Halo Valley
Halo Valley is Barrett Jones, Gordie Shaw, and Phong Tran, three longtime D.C. improvisers who together extract influences from experimental, psychedelic, blues, noise, abstract, samba, chance, and raga musics in their continual search for the ecstatic... a yeti in the wilderness of sounds. For this show, they are pleased to have Nate Scheible along for the ride.

CK Barlow
A recent transplant from the rich experimental scene spanning Albuquerque and Santa Fe, CK turns real-time and field recordings into performable pieces using a variety of hardware controllers. In addition to solo appearances, CK spent 14 years with the acclaimed avant-orchestral conduction-improv ensemble Out of Context using a custom live-sampling setup (OOC was led by live-sampling legend Dino JA Deane, who has also performed at Sonic Circuits). Other NM bands included Useless Eaters w/Deane and DJ Ultraviolet, and mJane with Molly Sturges.

Plus during intermission we will be screening recent experimental short films:

Snowbirds by Lorenzo Gattorna
2015, 16mm to HD, color, sound, 8:30 min
The onset of northern winter transitions towards the solace of southern latitudes. A very dense nostalgia nestles into the former as a strange beauty surfaces upon the latter. However, what remains constant across these atmospheres is a forecast for the near future, wherein a certain unease surrounds the establishment of permanence and eventual passersby.

Deal Island Harbor in July
2015 MDV Color, Sound, 3:30 min
An ongoing audiovisual journey through Deal/Chance Island located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The scene of this passage is Deal Island harbor.

Gulls at Gibraltar by Stephen Broomer
Seagulls hover and dip on the rocky coastline of Gibraltar Point. Tilting and multiple horizons camouflage the birds, splintering and gathering the lone gull to the flock.
2015 B/W, Silent, 3:32 min

Saturday Aug 29th 2015 @ 7:30 p.m. - 11 p.m.
