Lea Bertucci, Anthony Pirog, Halo Valley
Lea Bertucci is an American sound artist, composer and performer whose work describes relationships between acoustic phenomena and biological resonance. Her work often incorporates multi-channel speaker arrays, electroacoustic feedback, extended instrumental/vocal technique, and tape collage. As an instrumentalist, she takes an idiosyncratic approach to the amplification of woodwind instruments, creating organic yet electrified sonic interventions. Her debut solo LP, Resonance Shapes, was released in 2013 on the Obsolete Units label and has been praised by A Closer Listen as "A grand exploration of the possibilities inherent in sound”. She is a 2015 ISSUE Project Room Artist-in-Residence and is a Harvestworks New Works Fellow. Her discography includes a number of solo and collaborative releases on various underground independent labels in the US and Europe.
Seemingly able to master any convention he chooses to adopt and more than capable of developing and adapting his own, Anthony Pirog challenges our preconceived notions about genre and guitar sound. As he comes further into his own as an artist, he continues to shape, tear down and reshape his unique conceptions of what guitar can be. Anthony's style is studied, yet unorthodox; avant-garde, yet accessible; faintly familiar, yet conspicuously original.
Halo Valley is Barrett Jones, Gordie Shaw, and Phong Tran, three longtime D.C. improvisers who together extract influences from experimental, psychedelic, blues, noise, abstract, samba, chance, and raga musics in their continual search for the ecstatic... a yeti in the wilderness of sounds.
